Thankful and Reflective

As the jet lag slowly wears off from my 2-week trip in Asia, I have been reflecting on how meaningful it is to unplug. Even though my AT&T plan only charges $10/day for international usage, I always use time abroad to stay in airplane mode. When else can we ignore texts and emails and be engulfed in the present moment?

Upon landing in the States, a pang of anxiety hit because I knew emails and texts awaited. Rather than jumping into old habits, I am challenging myself in a few different ways this winter. Winter in Chinese medicine is the most yin time of the year. Yin represents rest and darkness. It is a time to conserve energy by sleeping more and committing less. I’ll be honoring the season by:

Airplane mode more often.

Putting my phone outside the bedroom at night.

Calling instead of texting.

Even as the holiday season approaches, I challenge you to be mindful throughout your day and spend time tending to the cues of your body.
